Mt Hood National Forest - April: 4 days

A long weekend near Portland, in April.  Does it rain in Portland? Always. Does it snow? On Mt. Hood, heck yes.


TRIP COST FOR 2
Flight: $556/pp (GRR <> PDX)
Rental Car for 2 days: $113
Lodging for 2 days: $255
Food/Drinks: $150/pp

**tacked onto a friends work-related trip so I did a few things on my own + had free company lodging

DAY 1: COLOMBIA RIVER GORGE
  • Latourall Falls
  • Bridal Veil Falls (seen across the river from viewpoint)
  • Multnomah Falls
  • Oneonta Gorge (closed for us, but would of loved to see)
  • Bridge of the Gods (small toll) lead us into Washington state
  • Fremont Brewing Company
    • Great beer
    • Grilled cheese & tomato soup!

DAY 2: MT HOOD
  • Tamanawas Falls Trail (3.8 miles)
    • Amazing hike
    • Icy - bring yaktraxs!
  • Timberline Lodge
    • Drove up - so flabbergasted by the height of the snow.
    • Taller than 7ft!
    • Had lunch ther 
  • Old Salmon River Trail
    • It was snowy & gloomy so we decided to drive 20 minutes here
    • It was a complete 180 flip in weather
    • Sunny & humid vs. snowy & gloomy
    • Highlight of the trip - the moss on all the gigantic trees was awe-inspiring!
  • Trillium Lake Loop Trail
    • We had to walk to what was a typically driveable to the lake
    • Took 4 miles, and we got to the lake, didn't see views of Mt. Hood because it was snowing so hard
  • Mt. Hood Brewing Company

DAY 3: HEADED TO PORTLAND
  • ​Jonsrud Viewpoint
  • Dodge Park
    • the drive is beautiful
    • more mossy trees
  • Met up with a few friends and hiked Mt. Tabor park for a view of Portland
  • Dinner at Rogue Brewing Company

LODGING
Jupiter Hotel

DAY 4: OREGON COAST
  • Drove 1.5 hours to Cannon Beach (worth it!)
  • Had a famous cinnamon roll the size of your head at Camp 18
